Tourism development should go beyond popular destinations and create opportunities for local communities: Central Minister of Tourism and Culture Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat

Central Minister of Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has presented a significant roadmap outlining the future direction and development strategy of India’s tourism sector. The Minister emphasized that tourism development should not be limited to the country’s famous or popular geographical sites, but rather, its true benefits must reach local communities. He clarified that the primary objective of the tourism industry is to create economic opportunities for local people and improve their standard of living.

While speaking, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also indicated that if the benefits of tourism remain confined to only a few selected locations, the overall economy cannot reap its full advantages. Instead, the government’s policies aim to ensure that tourism facilities and activities extend to areas where local communities can actively participate. The Minister also noted that when local communities participate in the tourism sector, they gain access to new avenues of employment, while their traditional arts, customs, and culture are given the opportunity to reach global audiences.
