Central Home and Co‑operation Minister Shri Amit Shah attended the 73rd birthday ceremony of Maa Amritanandamayi Ji as the chief guest at the Amritanandamayi Ashram in Kollam city, Kerala. The event was part of the Ashram’s annual programme, which saw participation from numerous religious and social organisations from India and abroad. The ceremony began with a special cultural presentation in tribute to Maa Amritanandamayi’s life and work, after which Minister Shah delivered the main address. In his speech he emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation in India’s diverse social fabric and stated that various schemes run under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Co‑operation Department—such as strengthening rural co‑operative institutions and women’s economic empowerment—play a crucial role in realizing such social objectives.

Shah specifically praised the various social services established by Maa Amritanandamayi—such as free medical camps, educational programmes, and disaster relief work—and said that the government is endeavouring to incorporate these initiatives into a cooperative framework to further extend their impact. He mentioned several co‑operative projects underway at the Ashram, particularly schemes that provide self‑employment opportunities for women in rural areas, and assured that these initiatives would receive greater encouragement at the national level in the future.
