NMDC to invest Rs 5,427 crore in Bastar, Chhattisgarh

Bastar, Chhattisgarh – NMDC (National Mineral Development Corporation) has announced a major development project in Bastar district with a budget of 5,427 crore rupees. Under this project, infrastructure, industrial parks, and new employment opportunities will be created in various parts of the district.
A primary objective of the project is to promote holistic development in the rural areas of Bastar. An NMDC spokesperson stated, “Our goal is to provide the people of Bastar with a better standard of living and improved employment opportunities. This project will not only inject new energy into industries but also create new jobs for local residents.”
Under this initiative, industrial parks will be established in 12 major townships in Bastar. These parks will provide industrial units for more than 50 industries. NMDC stated that complete arrangements for land, power supply, water supply, and road facilities will be made for the establishment of industrial units in these parks.
In addition, a new railway station will be constructed in Bastar district under the project. This station will connect Bastar to the national railway network while facilitating cargo transport and logistics for industries. An NMDC official stated, “The new station will be fully operational by 2028, providing significant convenience for freight transport for Bastar’s industries.”
Besides industries, the project will also expand education and healthcare facilities. NMDC has committed to adding new facilities to 20 primary and secondary schools in Bastar. Additionally, a new health center will be established where free medical services will be provided to rural residents.
The financial aspects of the project were also highlighted. NMDC stated that a budget of 5,427 crore rupees has been allocated for this project, of which 70 percent will come from government contribution and 30 percent from NMDC’s own funds.
The reaction from Bastar residents to the project has been positive. A local legislator said, “Projects like this will bring a new direction to our district. We hope this project will create new employment opportunities for our people and economically empower us.”
NMDC also announced that all construction work during the project will comply with environmental standards. Green zones and water conservation plans will also be implemented under the project to ensure that development proceeds alongside environmental protection.
Finally, NMDC stated that this project will serve as a ‘smart development’ model for Bastar. “Our goal is to make Bastar a region where industry, education, health, and environment all progress together towards prosperity.”
