In a major crackdown on coastal drug trafficking activities in Tamil Nadu, a team from the Drugs Revenue Inspection (DRI) under the Drugs and Cosmetics Sales Control Act (DCSCA) has carried out a historic operation. During this large-scale surgical action, officials seized a consignment of 137 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as "crystal meth." This seizure is significant not only in terms of quantity but also exposes the operations of active smuggling networks in coastal regions.
A special DRI team conducted an in-depth investigation into this long-running smuggling ring. According to sources, the network primarily used coastal routes to transport drugs to the interior of the country. Officials stated that the black market value of the seized crystal meth could be in the hundreds of millions of rupees, indicating the substantial financial power of the organizations involved in this trafficking. As part of the operation, police and DRI officials arrested four main accused. Not only were narcotics recovered from these accused, but also phones and other evidentiary material used for communication, which may prove helpful in further investigations.
During the investigation, it emerged that the network operated with great caution, often using different modes of transport and creating separate cover stories to evade the notice of security forces. However, DRI’s surveillance and intelligence systems successfully tracked their movements. The local police administration welcomed the operation, claiming that this seizure will prove to be a milestone for further investigations.
Officials clarified that the four arrested accused were the key nodal points of the smuggling operation, involved in both supply and distribution links. A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing. In its press release, the DRI emphasized that the joint efforts of the government and law enforcement agencies will continue unabated to eliminate all forms of trafficking, particularly drug trafficking active in coastal areas. The seizure of this large consignment has not only saved hundreds of young people from falling into the clutches of addiction but has also dealt a severe blow to the financial structure of the smuggling network. Legal preparations are also underway for further hearings and court action against the accused to ensure stringent punishment and instill a deterrent fear against such activities in the future.
