Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar reviewed the functioning of the departments, bureaus, and institutions under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

New Delhi, October 20, 2026. Emphasizing the central government’s commitment to protecting the rights and advancing the interests of marginalized and vulnerable sections of society, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar conducted a detailed review of the operations of various departments, bureaus, and autonomous institutions under the ministry. The review was conducted through a special webinar, with the primary objective of assessing the progress of program implementation and setting strategic guidelines for the coming years.

During the review meeting, Dr. Virendra Kumar engaged with all relevant officials, department heads, and organizational heads of the ministry. He clarified on this occasion that social justice is not merely an ideal but a practical task requiring effective policy implementation. The Minister stated that all institutions under the ministry must fully discharge their responsibilities and remain continuously committed to reform. He specifically highlighted areas where applicants or beneficiaries are facing difficulties in accessing services in a timely manner.

During the review, an in-depth discussion was held on the data and progress reports presented by various bureaus and departments of the ministry. Dr. Kumar focused particularly on issues related to empowerment and convenience, including educational admissions, reservations in government services, and the implementation of special schemes for marginalized groups. He noted that efforts to simplify and make processes transparent through technological innovations must be accelerated. The Minister directed that proposals for prompt corrective measures be prepared and presented for schemes where implementation has been delayed.

In this meeting, heads of several autonomous institutions under the ministry also provided detailed information about the challenges and successes in their respective areas. While appreciating the progress of these institutions, Dr. Virendra Kumar also indicated the need to monitor their shortcomings. He stated that every department and bureau must ensure that the government’s social justice schemes reach the beneficiaries directly without any hindrances at any intermediate level.

At the conclusion of the review, the Minister appealed to all officials to pay special attention to bringing innovation in their areas of work and to work rigorously while fulfilling their duty to public service. Dr. Virendra Kumar also mentioned that the role of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is crucial in social harmony and sustainable development; therefore, transparent and rigorous evaluation of every small and large activity is essential. The decisions of this meeting have been sent to the relevant departments for prompt implementation so that significant improvements can be recorded in the next operational cycle.
