On the final day of the National Agriculture Conference held in New Delhi, Union Minister of Agriculture Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan addressed the nation's farmers and stakeholders in the agricultural sector through a press conference. The primary objective of this significant event was to make strategic preparations for the upcoming Rabi season and ensure a notable increase in crop production. Minister Chouhan informed the press conference about the major changes and new initiatives undertaken under the Rabi campaign, with special emphasis on sowing time, seed quality, and water management.
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan argued that timely sowing is extremely essential to increase the yield of Rabi crops, particularly wheat and mustard. He stated that the central government has announced several incentive packages aimed at encouraging farmers to sow at the right time. These packages include ensuring the availability of advanced variety seeds that are resistant to pests and diseases. The Minister also mentioned that due to sensitivity to adverse weather, farmers should make sowing decisions while keeping the weather forecast in mind, so that problems like smut or black rot do not spread.
Emphasizing the management of water resources, Shri Chouhan stated that the government is promoting the adoption of modern techniques such as drip irrigation and spray irrigation. He said that changes in irrigation systems are necessary to prevent water overuse, which will not only increase yield but also reduce procurement costs. Additionally, the Minister highlighted the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), where farmers are being provided with direct technical assistance and guidance.
During the press conference, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan also mentioned the efforts being made to double farmers' income. He noted that coordination is being done with financial institutions to make the procurement process under MSP (Minimum Support Price) more smooth. The government's goal is to ensure that farmers receive fair compensation for their hard work and become self-reliant.
At the conclusion of the conference, the Minister thanked all agricultural experts, researchers, and farmer organizations for their cooperation. He further stated that the Rabi campaign is not just a seasonal program, but a symbol of the country's food security and economic strength. Shri Chouhan assured that the government will make every possible effort to achieve the targeted yield this season and keep a smile on the faces of farmers. This press conference not only served as a guide for farmers but also clarified the direction of agricultural policy changes.
