Following the Durga Muhurat, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda inaugurated a state-of-the-art radiotherapy facility at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot, Gujarat. Addressing officials and health experts present on the occasion, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rapidly extending quality cancer treatment facilities to every corner of the country, particularly to rural and economically weaker sections of citizens. The inauguration of this new facility not only enhances the medical capacity of AIIMS Rajkot but also marks a new milestone in regional cancer care, where patients previously had to travel to distant cities for treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, J.P. Nadda noted that the journey of a cancer patient is often difficult, and as modern technologies are increasingly adopted through the partnership of state and central governments, both the quality and reach of treatment will improve. He congratulated the management team of AIIMS Rajkot on this achievement, stating that the institution has now emerged as a premier center for the region, where patients will receive precise and faster treatment through the latest radiotherapy machines.
During the event, the head of AIIMS Rajkot also expressed gratitude and stated that this new unit will be able to serve hundreds of patients daily, thereby reducing difficulties in treatment. He also mentioned that advanced radiotherapy technology not only makes treatment more effective but also reduces side effects for patients, which is a significant relief for those battling cancer.
In his address, the Minister also emphasized that the government is giving equal attention to both preventive care and advanced treatment under the vision of “Healthy India.” He also indicated upcoming plans, including the establishment of cancer hospitals of similar standards in other districts, so that citizens can access better medical facilities in their vicinity. The Governor of Gujarat, the Chief Minister, and other senior officials were also present at the inauguration ceremony, where they appreciated this progress in the healthcare sector while witnessing this historic event.
This new radiotherapy facility at AIIMS Rajkot is now open to patients, eliminating the need for cancer-affected individuals in the region to undertake long journeys. This step is commendable and demonstrates the government’s serious resolve towards equality and accessibility in healthcare services.
