Government mobilizes National Law Universities to resolve pending criminal cases in hotspot districts

Government takes a significant administrative and legal step to speed up the disposal of pending cases in India’s judicial system. Under this initiative, the country’s leading National Law Universities (NLUs) have been brought together to more effectively resolve pending litigation in districts with a high volume of criminal cases that are considered “hotspots.” This initiative is not only aimed at reducing judicial delays but is also highly relevant from the perspective of upholding the rule of law and restoring legal peace in society.

Currently, concerns about the functioning of courts have increased in many regions. Instead of building police‑judicial coordination in hotspot districts through conservative methods, the government has focused on restorative justice and alternative dispute resolution. Researchers, professors, and senior students from the NLUs have been incorporated into a special task force for this purpose. These scholars will analyze complex and pending criminal cases, identify legal hurdles, and propose effective solutions.

In this joint effort, NLU experts will prove helpful in resolving sharp legal inquiries. They will suggest improvements to court operations and, by meeting with police administration, streamline and accelerate the case disposal process. A special committee comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Law and heads of NLUs has been formed to monitor the government’s move.
