The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted a precise operation this morning against gold smuggling at the Bangladesh border. During the operation, more than 8.3 kilograms of foreign gold was seized and four suspects were taken into custody.
During the operation, a secret network located at the border was activated. Agents from the Indian Border Security Force and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence collaborated in a coordinated effort to intercept shipments of gold coming from Bangladesh. The seized metal included 8.3 kilograms of foreign gold, which had been secretly loaded while crossing the border.
The four individuals arrested were caught while crossing the border. They were taken into custody by officers of the Border Security Force and sent to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence headquarters for further investigation. During the arrests, officials found that two of the four were carrying counterfeit documents and cash in addition to the gold.
The Director of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence stated that this operation was part of a larger scheme of smuggling activities at the border. The Director said, “We had a detailed plan regarding gold smuggling from Bangladesh. Through this operation, we thwarted the scheme and took a significant step in stopping the illegal flow of gold across the Indian border.”
Additionally, a senior officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence clarified that this operation was part of a multi-agency effort. The operation was successful due to coordination between the Border Security Force, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, and the Customs Department.
During the operation, officials also found that the gold was being brought from Bangladesh to the Indian border via a specific secret route. To block this route, a new surveillance system has been established at the border to prevent such smuggling activities in the future.
The head of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence also stated that following this operation, an in-depth investigation will be conducted into the source, route, and associated networks of the smuggling. He emphasized that continuous surveillance and coordinated efforts are necessary to stop gold smuggling at India’s borders.
Ultimately, this operation is a significant step against gold smuggling at the Indian border. This successful action by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Border Security Force demonstrates that the Indian government is firmly committed to border security and anti-smuggling efforts. Following the operation, officials stated that they remain prepared for similar operations in the future to prevent the illegal movement of metals and other smuggled goods across the border.
